Trustworthiness in Computer-mediated Transactions: a Content Analysis of Trustor Feedback

چکیده
Internet-based information technology enables impromptu, virtually anonymous interactions between geographically dispersed, diverse others that is an order of magnitude larger than any preceding information technology. With this increased networking capability comes increased risk and uncertainty. We conducted a content analysis to identify what trustors in peer-to-peer computermediated transactions communicate to other trustors regarding the trustworthiness of a trustee with whom they have interacted. In our study, 61% of all feedback comments made reference to the trustworthiness of the trustee. Nearly half of all comments referred to the ability of the trustee while nearly a quarter referred to the trustee's integrity.

On the Differential Effects of Computer-Mediated and Metalinguistic Corrective Feedback on Iranian EFL Learners’ Writing Accuracy
The present study investigated differential effect of two types of feedback namely, computer-mediated and metalinguistic, on Iranian EFL learners’ writing accuracy. To this end, based on Nelson Proficiency Test (300 A), 69 Iranian advanced EFL learners, including 45 males and 24 females, aged between 17 and 24, learning English in language institutes in Salmas, were selected randomly out of the...

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of asynchronous computer-mediated versus conventional corrective feedback on learners' writing accuracy. Three groups of learners took part in the study: asynchronous feedback group, conventional feedback group, and a control group. Asynchronous feedback group students received explicit feedback on the targeted structure via e-mail, while...
متن کاملThe Impact of Third-Party Information on Trust: Valence, Source, and Reliability
Economic exchange between strangers happens extremely frequently due to the growing number of internet transactions. In trust situations like online transactions, a trustor usually does not know whether she encounters a trustworthy trustee. However, the trustor might form beliefs about the trustee's trustworthiness by relying on third-party information. Different kinds of third-party informatio...
متن کاملWhat is trustworthiness and what drives it?
This paper reports the results of experiments designed to isolate the impact of various combinations of the following motives on trustworthiness: (i) unconditional other-regarding preferences — like altruism, inequality aversion, quasi-maximin, etc.; (ii) deal-responsiveness — reacting to actions that allow for a mutual improvement by adopting behavior that implies a mutual improvement; (iii) g...
متن کاملContext-aware Trustworthiness Evaluation with Indirect Knowledge
Commonly, when a Trustor evaluates a Trustee’s trustworthiness, it is assumed that the evaluation is based on information directly available to the Trustor. This can concern for example the reputation and recommendations characterizing the Trustee. In cases of context-aware trust, this is further restricted by concentrating mainly on information in a similar enough context as is effective at tr...
